Sitting to the east of Abbey and south of Belgrave, Latimer is an electoral ward in the city of Leicester, England. It covers the residential suburb of St Marks, which was developed following Leicester’s slum clearance programmes in 1960. The ward is also bordered by Spinney Hills to the south and North Evington to the east.
Population and Community
Latimer had a recorded population of 11,583 with an average age of 35, matching the city-wide average. The ward has the highest concentration of Indian residents anywhere in Leicester, with 74% of its population identifying as Indian, compared to 25% across the city as a whole. Only 16% of Latimer residents are native British, making it one of the most distinctly South Asian communities in the East Midlands.
